Rite 13 - Sundays
After Communion at the 10 am Service
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
Psalm 139:14

The 6th and 7th Grade students at St. Stephen's participate in a religious eduation program called Rite 13. The name comes from a liturgical rite of passage we celebrate with young people near their 13th birthday, as they begin along their path to becoming adult members of our faith community.

The two years of Rite 13 focus on recognizing the gifts God has given us, celebrating our creative potential, and learning to live out our faith as we interact with one another.

The Rite 13 students have a traditional Sunday School each week, beginning after the celebration of communion, combined with fun outside activities, for example movies, corn maze adventures, laser tag and lock-ins, where they bond as a group and build trust and camaraderie.

During the summer months the Rite 13 Sunday school class doesn't meet on Sunday morning, however, the students reconnect in two major character building experiences.  After the first year of class, they participate in a weekend canoe trip on the Au Sable river.  The "Urban Adventure" foray to Chicago occurs during the final summer.  The Rite 13 group is responsible for navigating the city and finding various buildings and sites while the adult leaders merely follow in their footsteps.

Friendships and connections made by the Rite 13 group continue to strengthen and grow as they move together to the Journey to Adulthood (J2A).
