ACRONYMS WE HAVE KNOWN…OR NOT

AA – Alcoholics Anonymous

This highly effective self-help group rents our parish hall space on Thursdays at 7 PM.  These meetings are open to the public, that is, to anyone who considers himself to have a drinking problem.

C.E.S.A. – Combined Episcopal Services Appeal

St. Stephen’s pledges an annual contribution to this outreach fund which is administered by the Diocese.

ECW – Episcopal Church Women

All women who belong to an Episcopal church are automatically ECW members.  We don’t have an active group at our church right now, only because our ladies are so busy through the week, especially with so many in full-time jobs.  The 4-member board comes from among our congregation and used to arrange women’s activities and do a lot of the work that has been taken up by the Hospitality and Pastoral Care committees.

I & E – Inform and Empower

Thoroughly Episcopal but not found outside St. Stephen’s, this annual, sometimes semi-annual, program was invented by Jonathan and the former Adult Ed. committee.  Groups are formed in the Fall with two facilitators each to meet in homes or at church once a week for four weeks, ending with (what else?!) a potluck supper.  The groups follow an outline on a given topic which, by sharing our thoughts and experience, is explored for the enhancement of our spiritual selves.  Skills needed?  Listening and/or sharing.

G.E.M. – Greet, Eat, Meet

These groups, four couples each or the singles group, meet once a month in each other’s homes to share potluck and get acquainted in a social setting.  There is no agenda or business to be conducted, just the fun of getting together and eating great food.  No dues, no dress code, and the singles group really lives on the edge with no menu.

UTO – United Thank Offering

One person takes the responsibility of announcing the Spring and Fall ingatherings and accepting parishioners’ money.  Grants are made to ministries and programs serving the disadvantaged both nationally and throughout the world.

YACYM – Young Adults, Children and Youth Ministry

See the Committee’s description of their work for more detail.
