Faith has played an important part in the history of Birmingham-Bloomfield, and continues to have a place in the life of the community. The religious community assumes a dynamic role in addressing problems faced by the local and metropolitan areas, both individually and collectively. The Northwest Suburban Ministerial Association, an alliance of congregations in the Birmingham-Bloomfield and surrounding areas, facilitates cooperation among denominations.
A recent collaborative and interfaith effort was the establishment of TEAM Center -- The Emergency Assistance Ministry -- of Birmingham/Bloomfield. This ministry is also associated with Lighthouse, an Oakland County human services agency. The TEAM Center, located at First Baptist Church in downtown Birmingham, provides emergency aid to persons in need in the community.
St. Stephen's is one of the congregations which provides financial resources and volunteer support to the TEAM Center. The TEAM center is open to persons in the community needing emergency assistance on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 10am - 2pm and on Fridays by appointment only.
