Episcopal Relief & Development

Episcopal Relief & Development  (ERD), formerly known as the Presiding Bishop’s Fund for World Relief has been in existence since 1940.   The organization has distributed more than $100 million to more than 100 countries on six continents, providing emergency assistance and ongoing rehabilitation.

Episcopal Relief and Development awards grants to groups and organizations both in the United States and around the world to support emergency efforts after natural disasters, wars and civil unrest, rehabilitation work after the crises subside, and preventive development projects.

Grants that respond to the effects of natural disasters help fund basic and immediate needs such as food, shelter, and medical care.  Rehabilitation grants help communities rebuild, replant crops, assist people in finding jobs, and provide post-trauma services.  Development grants support projects such as job training, small-scale credit programs, adult literacy classes, health care clinics, disease prevention and education and food banks.

The Outreach Ministries at St. Stephen’s supports the work of this organization by making needs throughout the world known to the congregation and encouraging financial support for both emergency relief and long-term development projects that help break the cycle of hunger and poverty in our world.
